Wakulla Book Review: Children of Dreams by Lorilyn Roberts

Winston Churchill's famous quote of World War II "We will never give up" appears to be the standard of how Ms. Roberts lives her life.

Children of Dreams is a book of nonfiction that follows the author's dream of becoming a mother. What she has to go through to fulfill her dreams is an inspiring story of courage, determination, and faith when confronted with the many obstacles along this journey.

We get a glimpse into the author's past and her struggles to come to terms with divorce, being unable to bare children, and herself. During this time of searching, she turns to risk‑taking activities, such as traveling to areas of the world known for unrest and extreme sports ‑ downhill skiing and scuba diving, calculated dangers, yes, but still risk is involved.

The uncertainty of traveling by yourself to Nepal, man or woman ‑ this time the risk was worth it. To become a mother to give another human in need a fresh start in life. With all the adventures, the Western world has to offer.

So much we take for granted, clean water, education, toilet paper [read the book], three meals a day, and much more.

It's not enough she does this once. She does it a second time with a new set of obstacles to overcome. Again, she is guided by her faith in God. It's a lesson we can all learn from. I know I did.

Wakulla Book Review: A Tumbled Stone, by Marcia Lee Laycock

This book starts off where One Smooth Stone left off.

Alex and Kennie, his wife, are searching for the sister he saw in a picture that was taken 19 years ago.

Alex turns to the detective who had found him, Stan Sorenson, for help.

It will test everybody’s faith and trust. It will show that no matter what wrongs you have done and how long it has been, that God’s mercy, grace and forgiveness are just a prayer away.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and have recommended it to others.

Wakulla Book Review: "Get on Board and Stay on Board" by Pearl Nsiah-Kumi

This book is an inspirational/devotional designed to educate, encourage, and empower the reader. Through the use of poetry, life-lessons, and corresponding Scripture, the book covers a wide array of topics, essential to living life in a way that’s pleasing to God.

I especially enjoyed the opening of this book. The author attempts to clarify who God is, and distinguish Him from other deities, and does so in a manner that’s not judgmental or adversarial. I also enjoyed the author’s presence of mind to not write only to those who believe in God, but to those who may not believe, or to those who may be searching for a better way.

Her love for God, Christ, and the desire for her fellow men and women to come to know, and love them as well, is clear and that love radiates from, and flows through this book. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone searching for a clearer understanding and connection to God, as well as those looking to turn to God for the first time.

Wakulla Book Review: " First and Goal" by Jake Byrne with H. Michael

"First and Goal" by Jake Byrne with H. Michael

The author describes his life experiences while using Scripture as a “building block” for getting him through the rough times.

He shows that anything is possible when you have faith in God. Nothing is impossible.

God will always be with you throughout all phases and situations in your life. It is better to put your trust in Him than in anyone else.

God had a plan for the author before he was born; God has a plan for all of us.

Wakulla Book Review: “Burning at the Boss” by Martin Roth

A murder has taken place and it’s personal for Johnny Ravine. He is dating the preacher’s daughter and it’s her father who has been murdered. Helping him along the way, of course, are his friends Pastor Ron and Rohan. The past comes to the present, in more ways than one.

I think the author is trying to say that no matter what you have done in your past, it will always be a part of you – good or bad.

I enjoyed reading the book and have recommended it to others. I am a little saddened that this is the last of the series and Johnny Ravine, but I look forward to reading more books from Martin Roth.
