"Peter and the Whimper-Whineys Coloring Book" by Sherrill Cannon, reviewed by Lorilyn Roberts

Peter and the Whimper-Whineys Coloring Book
is a wonderful book for kids who enjoy coloring and enjoy a good story. The companion book to this one I read to some children when I went on a mission trip to Nepal a few years ago. As a read to a dozen kids, they listened with rapt attention, spellbound, and made me read it to them once more before I returned back to the States.

Peter and the Whimper-Whineys Coloring Book would be an awesome addition to any parent's library. After reading the story, children can color in the pages as they reflect on the moral presented.

I love books that tell great truths without sounding preachy, but instead, use the writer's creativity to engage the audience. Showing truth instead of "telling" is a gift of Sherrill S. Cannon. She also has a remarkable ability to write rhyming stories for children that parents love to read - over and over to their kids.

A Delightful Book for Children with ADHD - David's ADHD by Sherrill S. Cannon, Reviewed by Lorilyn Roberts

David's ADHD by Sherill S. Cannon is an excellent read for kids who struggle with ADHD. I learned more about ADHD in this delightful kids' picture book and how to help families cope than I thought possible. Most importantly, it's written so that children can understand the challenges and develop useful strategies for impatience, frustration, and out-of-control impulses.

I believe David's ADHD would be a great encouragement for everybody involved with ADHD, and it would give me hope that I could make my own child's life better if I had a son or daughter who struggled with it.

Particular elements of  David's ADHD that I liked included:

The rhyming lines, which make it fun for adults to read to their children.

The  colorful and warm drawings

The book follows a three-act set-up: the problem, the journey, and the resolution.

David's ADHD  is timely and relevant.

Elementary school children would be able to read David's ADHD.

Although I've personally not had to deal with ADHD, I have friends who have, and David's ADHD has given me more empathy for how ADHD affects families and encouraging ways to approach the issue with beneficial outcomes.

Book Review by Lorilyn Roberts of "Infernal Gates" Written by Michael Jack Webb - A Supernatural Christian Thriller in a Genre of Its Own - Based on Scripture

In today's world, where politics, Hollywood tabloids, and salacious news reporters fight for supremacy in entertaining the masses, most are blind to what is REALLY happening behind the veil.

Sometimes I feel like I'm living in a different reality from the one in which I grew up. Few people are able to recognize the spiritual battle that is being waged. Not a day goes by that we aren't affected, and in "Infernal Gates," Michael Webb gives us a glimpse into that spiritual realm with thought-provoking history, creative exegesis, and mysterious characters that keep the reader turning the pages.

Masterfully woven together with a hint of romance, tragedy that is too close for comfort, and an original storyline, Inferno Gates embodies the truth of Scripture with a historical and cultural narrative that is refreshing and eye-opening. With an unpredictable plot, the reader is whisked to exotic locations, and as only Michael Webb can artfully achieve, the story comes together with a conclusion that is truly satisfying.

I can't wait to read the sequel which I hear will be available soon.

Teens in High School in a Coming-of-Age Novel - When Darkness Tries to Hide, Book 2 in Montgomery Lake High Series

Book Review by Lorilyn Roberts

When Darkness Tries to Hide is the second book in the Montgomery Lake High Series and continues with a new story but the same kids from Montgomery High. The struggles of the Young Adults are authentic and reflect many of the issues that teens face today –  bullying, drugs, sex, self-worth, and making good choices.

I particularly liked how the author instills hope throughout the book and shows the reader how Jesus Christ truly can make all the difference. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Book Review of "The Right Person" in the Montgomery Lake High Series by Stacy A. Padula

Book Review by Lorilyn Roberts

The Right Person, Book 1 in the Montgomery Lake High Series by Stacy Padula, is a great read for teens and especially teens that struggle with self-worth. The Right Person introduces several young ladies and young men who are freshmen in high school, and they are caught in the crosshairs of coming-of-age and figuring out who they are in relationship to each other and to God as Christians—at least those who attend a church youth group.

If you are a young person and you are struggling to integrate your faith with friends, both male and female, this is the book for you. You will easily relate to the characters in the Montgomery Lake High Series.

Although I am way past my teenage years, I enjoyed reminiscing about those days long ago, and I would have enjoyed reading this as a young adult. I would have learned some things early on rather than the hard way later, and it would have reassured me that many of my insecurities were natural and common, especially when it came to dating.

Author Stacy Padula does a great job understanding the difficulties that teenagers face, and I particularly liked the upbeat ending of The Right Person. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the Montgomery Lake High Series.

Book Review by Lorilyn Roberts of "Pawprints in the Snow", written by Susan Miura and Patt Nicholls

“Pawprints in the Snow” by Susan Miura and Patt Nicholls is a delightful children’s book that combines science, art, faith, and creativity into a collection of poems about animals that will stir the imagination of young readers.

The poems in rhyme are delightful to read, and I found the fun facts following each poem fascinating. The photographs are captivating, and the subtle message of God’s love for all animals will touch the hearts and minds of children

As a former homeschooling mom, I recommend “Pawprints in the Snow” as a great addition to a homeschool family library. The words can be read over and over for sheer enjoyment. Young children will love the photographs and rhyme, and older children will enjoy being introduced to fun and exotic animals from around the globe.

I love books that impart a positive life message and capture God’s majesty. “Pawprints in the Sand” will not disappoint. In fact, is one of those rare books you will keep and treasure not only for your children but also for your grandchildren.

Book Review by Lorilyn Roberts - "Living & Breathing the Psalms" by Jim Edwards

After a year-long battle with cancer, I have found this book to be a great encouragement. Jim brings alive the true meaning of Psalms - to lift us above our circumstances, to show that God's love surpasses our most difficult trials, and that with Jesus, we are never alone. God is with us, and we can trust Him in our pain.

Each page is filled with encouragement, written in a style that anyone can understand as the Holy Spirit shouts praises and affirmations of God's unfailing love.

I have to admit, at times I haven't felt like praising God this last year, but "Living & Breathing the Psalms" reminds me that human feelings can be overcome and transformed into the worship of King Jesus.

if you are hurting, reading "Living & Breathing the Psalms" will renew your mind.

God hears our cries when we give Him our struggles.  I found this book to be a great encouragement,  prompting me to be more thankful. It helped me to keep my eyes on my Redeemer. Sometimes we need to be reminded, God is greater than our suffering, and He is able to do far more than we ask.

If you enjoy reading the Psalms, you will enjoy this modern-day praised-filled rendition. Soak in a little each day, and be filled with God's joy.
