Newbie’s Guide to Social Networking Part One

Set up a blog. The easiest and cheapest (free) to do is to set up a blogger account. Go to www.blogger.com

After you set up your blog, which should only take a few minutes, you want to add a follow button to your blog. This is very simple to do. On your blogger dashboard will be several different items you can add to your blog. First, click on layout, and then click on gadgets. Here is a screen shot of some of the items you will see:

Look for the option “followers.”  Click on that. Plug it into one of the places where it gives you an option to add a gadget. Now you will be able to capture followers to your blog as people visit your blog. Also, be sure and click on followers for the John 3:16 blog at http://john316mn.blogspot.com and follow us.

Now that you have your “follow” button set up, you want to add a couple of the John 3:16 widgets to your site. Here is a screen shot for the John 3:16 Marketing Network Blog widget.

You will notice under the widget on the right side the words “get widget.” Click on that and it will bring up an .HTML code. You take that code and copy and paste that into the option for .HTML/Java Script after going to layout and clicking on “add a gadget.” It will take you to a screen shot like below (you might have to click down the page a little bit).

Again, you click on .HTML/Java Script, and then you cut and paste in the code from the John 3:16 Marketing Network Blog widget. Click save, use your mouse to move around your new gadget if you don’t like where it’s appearing, save your blog again, and then you will now have the John 3:16 Marketing Network Blog widget on your blog. Since we created the widget, the widget has appeared over 100,000 times all over the Internet on various member blogs. That’s what networking does, and that is the power of networking.

You will notice we have other widgets on the John 3:16Marketing Network Blog, including the “countdown to launch” widget. Please feel free to share as many of the John 3:16 Marketing Network widgets on your site as you wish.

Please notice on the top left-hand side of your new blog a “share button.” If you click on that, you will have an option to share the page on Facebook or Twitter. If you want to share a specific blog and not the page, click on the title of the blog article and it will only share that specific article.

Be sure and post your first blog. I would recommend that you post at least every other week. Don’t know what to post? Think about who your target audience is. If you write Christian romance, perhaps you might write a book review about a Christian romance book. You might like to feature one of our John 3:16 Marketing Network romance authors on your blog. Just think about what you could post to attract followers, remembering content is king.

You can also announce your new blog on the John 3:16 Marketing Network forum. Many of the authors in the network will visit your site and start to follow you, and you will be well on your way to building a social networking platform.

Free Lesson Plan Teaches Lesson of Jonah

A free resource is now available to help teach the lesson of Jonah. Called The Lesson of Jonah: There is a Price to Pay when you Disobey, the ebook includes a short story involving a modern Jonah, discussion questions, Scripture citations and optional homework.

“The homework is to write a short story, which can be entered into a writing contesta writing contest for 10 to 14 year olds, who are to write exaggerated tales of woe or wail tales about kids who land in a whale of trouble for their wrong choices,” says Cheryl Rogers, publisher of New Christian Books Online Magazine.

The magazine is holding the writing contest in conjunction with the John 3:16 Marketing Network. The contest is intended to grow youths in their faith and introduce new readers to the magazine and its Christian authors.

The ebook gives churches, parents, Sunday school teachers and other interested adults a teaching tool, enabling them to play an active role in helping youths submit entries.

“The wail tales must be their own work, but the free lesson plan helps the children understand the biblical principles involved,” explains Cheryl.

Avid readers 9 to 17 can help judge the contest and get in on the fun by contacting Cheryl at http://www.songsfromtheword.com/NewChristianBooks/contact/

Entries must be submitted by email by July 15 to contest.newchristianbooks@earthlink.net  The first prize is $100, a $50 Walmart gift card and books by Christian authors.

Map Quilt

by
Lisa Lickel

Just how high a price does a family secret command?

Death in rural Wisconsin is only the beginning to new chaos in Robertsville. What do a stolen piece of revolutionary agricultural equipment, a long-buried skeleton in the yard, and an old quilt with secrets have in common?

Hart and Judy Wingate, who met in The Gold Standard, are back to solve the mystery of The Map Quilt. Hart's new battery design could forever change the farm implement industry. But after the death of Hart's most confrontational colleague in a fire that destroys Hart's workshop, the battery is missing.

Throw in a guest speaker invited to Judy's elementary classroom who insists she owns the land under Hart's chief competitor's corporate headquarters, and a police chief who's making eyes at Hart's widowed mother, it's no wonder Hart is under a ton of pressure to make sure his adventurous pregnant wife stays safe while trying to preserve his company and his reputation.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING!
Lisa J. Lickel weaves mystery, myths, black history, and the dynamics of family and community into a great read. The thread in the story is the legend of map quilts used in the Underground Railroad to help slaves, and freedmen alike, escape their pursuers using fabric maps designed as quilts. By adding corporate intrigue and spiritual questioning to the mix, Lickel blends the fabric of daily life with pieces of history for a wonderful reading adventure. -Peggy Bennitt
What could more intriguing than a contemporary mystery/romance about buried treasure that's also filled with history? The Map Quilt by Lisa J. Lickel is a fun and satisfying read for the grownups that still long for an involving mystery that provides plenty of detail without overemphasizing the grittier aspects of a story involving bodies. -Elaine Marie Cooper, author of the Deer Run books.
Lisa Lickel's The Map Quilt snags the reader with the first sentence and doesn't let go until the last thread. As the sequel to her original Barbour cozy mystery, The Gold Standard, the tale continues with the lives of Hart and Judy Wingate. It seems that anticipation over the birth of their first child and the release of Hart's latest "green" project for his employer, AdventiveAg, would be enough to keep the young Wisconsin couple busy. But so much more is going on. -Davalynn Spencer, author of Always Before Me
Lickel successfully weaves together history, mystery and likeable characters into a story that builds momentum and keeps me guessing until the very end. And she does it all without the gratuitous sex and violence that permeates this genre. Beyond providing a great read, this book introduced me to a great author. -Steve Miller, author of Social Media Frenzy

Wanted: Young Writers, Readers

The New Christian Books Online Magazine is recruiting readers and writers for its 2012 Summer Writing Contest. Readers will be junior judges and writers will submit short stories that teach the lesson of Jonah: There is a price to pay when you disobey.

The first place winner will receive $100 and a $50 Walmart gift card, plus free books from Christian authors Acacia Beumer, Laura Davis, Lorilyn Roberts and Cheryl Rogers.

Entries will be accepted from June 1 though July 15 at  contest.newchristianbooks@earthlink.net  All stories must be wail tales, or short stories between 1,000 and 3,000 words that teach the importance of obedience to God.

Wail tales are, in essence, exaggerated tales of woe involving a youth who has made bad choices and lands in a whale of trouble, just like Jonah in the Bible. In the end, the youth must call upon God and be restored through his grace.

The contest is being held in conjunction with the John 3:16 Marketing Network, a group of Christian writers who have bonded to promote the gospel through their writing.

“I believe the contest is a fun way reinforce the lesson of Jonah,” says Cheryl Rogers, publisher of New Christian Books Online Magazine. “It’s also a chance for budding writers to practice their craft. And a chance for network writers to introduce their work to more readers.”

Rogers authored Just Like Jonah Wail Tales, a storybook collection featuring modern Jonahs who make mistakes but turn to God and receive his mercy.

Judges include:

* Acacia Beumer, who was awarded the Dove Foundation’s “Family-Approved” Seal for ages 12 plus for her book Launch Out Into the Deep!  Beumer also is a recipient of the prestigious Mom’s Choice Award Gold Medal for the Most Outstanding Religion and Spirituality Book.

* Katherine Harms, author of Oceans of Love, a book with 30 days of meditations on God’s love built on texts relating to oceans and water;

* Lisa Lickel, author of First Children of Farmington, six stories of settler children and their families, which is illustrated by Brenda K. Hendricks, slated for release in time for Christmas 2012;

* Diane Tatum, author of the historical love story Gold Earrings, who taught middle school Language Arts for 11 years in Tullahoma City Schools; and

* Cheryl Rogers, publisher of New Christian Books Online Magazine.

Junior judges are volunteers ages 9 through 17, who will receive free copies of Just Like Jonah Wail Tales and the John 3:16 Marketing Network’s sampler book, Taste and See.

Here is a list of prizes:

First place: $100, $50 Walmart gift card, a paperback and audiobook CD of Acacia Beumer’s Launch Out Into the Deep, a copy of Laura Davis’ novel Come to Me and the accompanying Bible Study Guide Learning from the Master: Living the Surrendered Life, a copy of Lorilyn Robert’s upcoming young adult novel Seventh Dimension slated for release later this year, an autographed paperback copy of Fast Track to Victory, A Christian Guidebook, a devotions book by Cheryl Rogers; an e-copy of Just Like Jonah Wail Tales  by Cheryl Rogers; and an e-copy of John 3:16 Marketing Networks’ sampler book Taste and See.

Welcome to the 1st John 3:16 Giveaway Blog Hop! As one of the members of this great network of Christian Authors, I am excited to participate in this event! We have come together this week to showcase our books and to give you, our readers, a chance to win some great prizes as you "hop" from blog to blog.

A different prize is offered at each blog site (no purchase necessary).

However, if you want to win one of two Kindles that the network is giving away, the only requirement is that you sign up for the John 3:16 ezine newsletter (Located at the top right side column of this site, the John 3:16 blog site).

At the other blogs, authors may require that you leave a comment (and a valid email address) so they may contact you if you win a prize offered on their blog site.

May I also suggest that you show your love and appreciation to each blog host by either following them on Twitter, or "liking" them on Facebook or even subscribing to their blog (or joining). It won't help your odds of winning a prize but I know each author would be thrilled and very encouraged!

In addition to signing up for the John 3:16 Ezine, by clicking on the book cover for Taste and See (below), you can receive the FREE Kindle book. Taste and See is an anthology of first chapters by over sixty of our authors.
