This fourth entry into the Seventh Dimension series brings the battle against good and evil back to Earth. Although I'm a bit weary of treating public high school science teachers as the bad guy, I trust Roberts's story-telling skills enough to move on from a dramatic opening in class to the reunion of Shale and Daniel as they pick up the search for Daniel's father in contemporary Israel and Asia. Strangely, Shale's biological father is the face of a deeper conspiracy in the hunt for a closely guarded secret behind the physical means to cross the barriers of time--but what this will mean for the rapidly approaching Armageddon and whether mankind can shut out God will become an intergalactic issue, as much as a challenge to our young couple, is anyone’s guess. Or is it a carefully orchestrated event across time? Daniel and Shale not only face the external pressures of a world in transition, but also their own faith in God and each other. Trust has many avenues and faith many faces.

Roberts is a well-rounded story teller and uses her experiences in international travel to add wonderful layers to her credible characters.

A missionary from the Mideastern Nehrangesi people, Merit Campbell, is seriously injured in a skirmish and sent home to Illinois to heal. But does he really serve so far away from home for other reasons? After the death of his mother, father, and oldest brother, Merit has developed a fear of abandonment that keeps him from really being close to anyone.

Then there’s Amalia Kennedy, Superwoman to all in need. She owns a shop called The Last Detail. She handles, plans, and arranges end of life essentials, handles the other tedious things of life that causes others much stress and heartache, and she’s really good at it. But underneath it all, Amalia is suffering from loneliness and fear of commitment.

In this book the two fall in love and struggle to overcome their deep life controlling issues while learning to depend on each other. Also to communicate and share their lives with each other.

Love has to be two people committed to sharing everything, even past hurts, present fears, and future anxieties. Communication and full disclosure of oneself is what will build a binding relationship.

Theme: The struggle two Christians needlessly endure when they don’t confess all to each other. How people hide behind God and allow life controlling issues to destroy their love and their life.

I loved the struggle with Hudson over whether one had to go overseas to support foreigners when there is need in our country, our own city.

I also love the way the author got into the character’s feelings about the issue. I think Mrs. Lickel stands firm in God sends His people to where he needs and wants them, whether it’s overseas or out the front door.

Merit had to learn to do God’s work wherever God placed him.

This book is a really great read, the story comes alive as one sees their own struggle in the plot. Too many people refuse to communicate what’s really going on in their lives, allowing fears, anxieties and misunderstandings to ruin their relationships.

But just as Mrs. Lickel’s characters overcame through love, Christ, family and friends, so can we all. This book is awesome!

Wakulla Book Review: A Summer in Oakville, by Lisa J. Lickel

The book has a great idea tell the same story from 4 people’s perspective, the four people in the story. It is good to see how different people see and talk about the same thing happening, but have a completely different take on it. It reminds me of the four gospels. They all tell the same story but all highlight different parts of the story.

The book is designed for older teens and adults. At times it was hard to keep up with [some of the characters]. It is a story about faith. Faith in God and other people. Cn you trust your family? It talks about our past and how our past can influence our present and future.

The story is based on a small Farmington town called Oakville, WI. It is a story about big business and the takeover of the small farmer. It is a story about how the younger generation must help the older generation. It is a about the survival of the family farm. More than of these, is the belief in how big is your God. The God of the Bible is able to overcome pride, your past, your future, big business, and more importantly, yourself.

Overall the book was good. As I said before, at times, it was hard to keep up with some of the characters. Some needed more of a backstory. Their past played into the current situation and I had to go back a couple of times to find why they were doing or saying certain things. Overall, though, it was a good read.

Wakulla Book Review

The Last Detail is about two middle-aged people who find love with each other with patience and God’s will. Amalia grew up in a family with elderly parents and was an only child. She inherited a business “The Last Detail.” It was a service to loved ones of the deceased. Through convenience she was pressured into a future prearranged marriage with her partner, the owner of a funeral home. Hudson and Amalia’s parents were also partners and wanted their children to marry each other. The story takes place in a small town in USA and is current in time.

Merit, a missionary in the small country of Nehrangestan, is caught in between a rebel war and is wounded saving children of the village.

God puts Amalia and Merit together through a series of events that are heartwarming. Amalia has to take control of her life and have the courage to be up front and confrontational with Hudson. She uses wisdom and diplomacy to let him down while not affecting their business relationship.

I recommend this read. Somewhere in each of our hearts lies silently the emotions of relationships. I believe that God also has a wonderful plan for me in His time. I need the patience that the characters of this book have and let God work.
