Wakulla Book Review: The Newspaper Code by Lisa J. Lickel

The Newspaper Code is the third book of the Buried Treasures Mystery Series. And once again, there are many treasures buried in the story waiting for the reader to discover. The story centers around a statue and some gold that’s missing from the town treasury since the 1860s.

While looking for the gold, we find many more valuable treasures along the way. The people in the story learn about friendships and being friendly. They learn to trust, to listen, and to be patient. Ms. Lickel is able to help us to see our own flaws in a humorous light. Every reader should be able to connect with at least one of the characters!!

What we fine as we read this is the most important and valuable treasure of all—Jesus! Through the flawed and bumbling cast, it is easy to see our imperfections, our limitations and our deep need for a savior to forgive us and cleanse us. In the end, it is healing and restoring relationships that matter most, especially over a relationship with God. Excellent book.

Wakulla Book Review: Lilting Laments of a Looney Lass by Dana Rongione

A very, very good devotional book.  Yes, it was very humorous at times.  But for every time you smiled at what you were reading, there was another big wham coming at you.  And you didn't even see it coming.  Our Lord gave Ms. Rongione plenty of help to go with the elements of the book.

If one should take the time to read the table of contents by itself, you could sit and think about another story from your own life that would fit right into the scheme of things that she wrote about.

A good smattering of saucy humor.  The major problem here is that I personally can totally understand the stories that she wrote about.  And that really scares me.

I was raised on a farm in upstate New York in the 40's and 50's.  There were a lot of the things that she said in the book that were right out there in the open.  Including the God part of the book.

An excellent undertaking.

Wakulla Book Review: First and Goal by Jake Bryne

FIRST AND GOAL is a football-themed devotional. By using terminology from the game, the author is able to use his personal experiences as a football player and relate them to scripture in order to teach and encourage the reader.

The author’s love and devotion to God shows as he gives the reader insight in the lessons the author has leaned throughout his life.

Sports fans and non-sports fans alike will find this book enjoyable as there are many personal applications to be learned from FIRST AND GOAL. There is something for everyone, but I would especially recommend this book to those who love God as well as the game of football.

Wakulla Book Review: Seventh Dimension - The Castle, by Lorilyn Roberts

Summary: Now we go on with Daniel's journey to find the castle and to fall in love in more ways than one. Will Daniel past the test or hold on to his many Jewish beliefs and customs?  Only the illusion of time will tell here in the seventh dimension. Hold on tight, this is no ordinary read.

Purpose: I could name a hundred and not even begin, yet I can sum them all up with one:  To illustrate the passion of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in a way that even gives "The Passion of Christ" produced by Mel Gibson a run for detail.

Theme: The Lord of God for all His creation and the greatest demonstration of such love in the ultimate salvation message.

Thesis: Choices and how we sometimes must make many choices to prepare us for the most important one(s)

Controversial issues: Carnal mindedness, selfishness, and bitterness. Most importantly, the greatest sin of many ‑ unbelief.

Enjoy: Tell you after I read The City, December 2016.

Reviewed by Jackson P.

Note from Lorilyn:  I've already written the first draft of "The City," so it should be out around mid‑March. In time hopefully for Passover.

Wakulla Book Review: Unclaimed Legacy by Deborah Heal

As an audio book also

As the second book in a three-part series, this book should have been less than the first one was. Actually, it was just as good if not better. A very well written and thought out book. A very good basis for her characters.

This lady has an ability to get an exact mileage out of the characters that she places in front of you. I won’t lie and say that I like all of her characters, which I don’t, but I will say that she uses each one to the best of her ability. Also that ability is increasing along with her story plots.

My personal feelings are that this is a special 10.5 out of 10 on the scale., an exceptional work given to us to enjoy, and I truly did so.

Wakulla Book Review: A Summer in Oakville by Lisa Lickel and Shellie Neumeier, Review by Booker T.

Four of the Hasmer family are about to learn about love, forgiveness, and God. Contessa, known as Tessa, is seeking to divorce her husband Phil who has moved away to a big city and a job promotion—or so it seems. An old boyfriend is back in town, whom she’s attracted to.

Lindsey is a college graduate who can’t find a job so she moves in to her grandparents’ home and takes up the fight to save their farm.

Andy is an out of control teenager who’s lost his mom in a helicopter crash and is unable to connect with his father.

Arthur, or Art, is Andy’s father and is suffering from his wife’s death, his son’s out of control behavior, and his own demons concerning his brother Otto’s death years ago

Back on the farm in the summer, they find Oakville, Wisconsin to bring therapy, love, and a relationship with Christ into all four lives.

Purpose: One story has many different sides. The authors show how it differs from person to person.

Themes: Broken marriages and renewals. Letting loose and taking a chance on love. Forgiving yourself and others. Connecting and communicating to stop the pain.

This is a really good book. I enjoyed having the story from each of the four main characters. It really put a different spin on the whole story each time and left me sorting through my mind to connect the facts, feelings, and realities in the end. Good job, ladies.
