Wakulla Book Review: Ivory & Ice by Sandra Julian Barker

“What a wonderful story.  It seems I finished as soon as I started.

I love the way Ms. Barker not only showed the similarities between now and past civilizations, but a clear contrast between Beth and Jaen.  Beth feared love and commitment and Jaen embraced it in a journey to her mate that ultimately cost her life.

Jaen loved her family and mourned leaving, even though the call of love pulled her to Baarak in a distant culture.  Beth on the other hand needed relief from her family of dysfunction and hostility.

The character development was superior and the idea of two complete stories in one, captivating.

Bravo!  I eagerly await another installment; maybe another anthropology adventure with Beth.  Does Steve turn away in uncertainty because of her previous rejection?  Had she waited too long and someone else claimed Kevin?

And what about the waiting Baarak?  Did he get covered and captured by the glacier as Jaen?  Maybe we’ll never know.”
